The Feed the Need in Durham Board of Directors was elected on October 8, 2009 at the second official Annual General Meeting of the corporation.

Board of Directors

Past President - Adrianne Haight

Adrianne has been an active member of the Feed the Need in Durham Steering Committee since its inception in 2003 and most recently has been dedicating her time and skills to the interim Board of Directors of FTND. As an employee of Northern Lights Canada Adrianne supports a team of 25 staff and has over 15 years of vocational rehabilitation and employment counseling experience, exceptional facilitation skills and strong leadership abilities. Adrianne is a strong advocate for community initiatives and has been involved with raising funds throughout 2006-2008 in access of $3,400,000.

President - Merle Cole

After 33 years at the Management level with Human Resources Development Canada, Merle is now a semi-retired, self-employed Consultant with the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counselors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists designation. During Merle’s career he oversaw the granting of over $3 Million per year in funding to the local community to support employment related training and support programs. From 2001 to 2004 Merle was involved with the Social Development Council of Ajax-Pickering as a Special Project Coordinator that providing training, coaching and support to voluntary agencies in Durham Region regarding issues of funding strategies and grant writing, as well as fund raising, marketing, strategic planning and governance as they related to funding. At that time, he worked with the initial consortium around Feed the Need in Durham to obtain developmental funding for that initiative.

Vice President - June Kinniburgh

June is a strong community advocate for issues related to food security and poverty. After fifteen years in the health care field June recently has passionately dedicated her time and skills as an Interim Board of Director for Feed the Need in Durham and as Chair to the Feed the Need in Durham Network & Steering Committee. As well June is involved as a committee member with the People's Food Policy Project, is on the Steering Committee/Board and the Communications Working Group for Food Secure Canada and has been actively involved with the Durham Region Food Charter. June’s additional volunteer accomplishments are too extensive to list. In June’s additional time she is a part-time instructor and section designer/lead for two courses with Durham College and holds a number of professional designations including Professional Home Economist (P.H.Ec.), Certified Food Service Supervisor (F.S.S.) and memberships with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management, Ontario Home Economics Association, Toronto Home Economics Association and Food Secure Canada.

Treasurer - Bernard Sittlinger

Bernard is a Chartered Accountant for Maracle Press Limited in Oshawa as well as a Certified Public Accountant. Bernard has managed all aspects of accounting including records, financial statements, budgets, credit and collections, employee benefits and company pension plans. To complement Bernard’s career he is highly involved with his Church and was responsible for establishing the Canadian office of audit service for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is Chairperson of the Finance Committee and Assistant Director for the Durham Trailblazers Pathfinders Club.

Kelly Weeks

Kelly is currently employed with the Canadian Mental Health Association – Durham as a Vocational Rehabilitation Services – Team Leader and has many past experiences in the non-profit sector as both an employee and volunteer throughout Durham Region including work with the Durham Region Community Development Advisory Team as an Advisory Team Member, Working Together Towards Homeless Issues as a Steering Committee Member, North House Shelter – North Durham as a Founding Board of Director, S.A.F.E.~ Self Abuse Finally Ends as a Group Facilitator, and the Distress Centre Durham as a Peer Telephone Crisis Worker. Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and is very involved with volunteering at her daughter’s school, Gertrude Colpus Public School as an Executive Secretary for the School Community Council and with the Girl Guides Of Canada as the Leader-in-Charge.

Pamela DeRaaf

Pamela has dedicated many years towards advocacy for people with intellectual and physical disabilities and is passionate and committed to inclusion in all facets of the community. Pamela is currently employed with Personal Attendant Care and comes with excellent affiliations including Durham College Human Resource Advisory Committee, Regional Diversity Committee member (CAS) and Trillium College DSW Collaborations as well as professional designations; Human Resources Professional Association (HRPAO) and Certified Human Resources Professional Designation (CHRP). Pamela is eager and motivated to share her Human Resources expertise with Feed the Need in Durham Board of Directors and staff, her extensive experience with Employment Standards, Health and Safety, performance management tools, and orientation training should prove invaluable in providing direction and strategic thinking in moving FTND forward.

Sita Gardner

Sita speaks 8 languages, chaired two international student conferences on HIV Aids and Global justice, recently completed her Master of Science degree in International Development Studies with the London School of Economics and Political Science (Econ.) in London U.K. and is the President of Kessgard Canada where she introduced new quality standards and revitalized stagnant sales by using new marketing strategies resulting in increased sales and profits for the company. Sita is also a dedicated volunteer at home and abroad. A few of her local contributions include presently being a mentor and guide to University students (Masters Programs), and formerly, on the Board of Directors with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Durham Region, an English as a Second Language teacher with the Durham District School Board, including conducting workshops for new teachers, and as President of the Parent's Guild and member of the Board of Directors for Trafalgar Castle School. Other volunteer contributions are too numerous to mention. Sita's experience as the Chair of Fundraising Committees was to secure and exceed fund-raising initiatives for a number of non-profits by recruiting industry leaders and financial institutions to participate, as well as introducing innovative methods of fundraising to provide sustainability to charitable organizations.

Joan Skelton

We welcome Joan to the Board of Directors effective October 8th, 2009. More information about June will be forthcoming.
